Still looking

Apparently the only knitting that can be done is simple sock knitting. Which in a way is good as this is for a Christmas present so I'm way ahead of the game for me. About another inch to go then decrease for the toe and one will be done. Now on to the garden. Even though I am getting my weekly CSA box, I went ahead and planted a few things. These are going to grow up to be Husky Cherry tomatoes. Right now these are smaller then marbles.

Here's what is going to become a red bell pepper.

And here are some unwanted visitors that are no longer living. The shells are about the size of a quarter.

I also have growing Roma tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeno, basil, tarragon and oregano. I am on the hunt for a bayleaf tree. I have tried to plant to facilitate Italian and TexMex cuisine.

If I can't knit at least I can cook!!

Knitting Mojo

I have lost my knitting mojo. A few weeks ago I started making the Ruched Tank Top by Karen Garlinghouse. The top is done except for weaving in ends but while it looks good laying down, it does not look good on my body. I attempted the neckline several times and am not happy with it so it will be going to the frog pile to become something else another day. Today after a lovely day knitting with friends I stopped to look at the progress I had made on my Loppem out of Berroco Palace and realized 4 inches back I had made a mistake on one of the cables. Guess who's going to be ripping back?

To top all this off, my Webs order came today for some yarn I had ordered to go along with some yarn I already had and of course the dye lots are too off to use together.

I think it's time for some wine as I have now finished with the other whining!!!

Haruni Shawl

My Haruni Shawl is done!! During Ravelympics I enjoyed the challenge of everyone working on a project for a set time. So much so that I suggested in the Yarns Ewenique group that we do a KAL. We decided to all work on the Haruni by Emily Ross. I am proud to say I finished my shawl. I was concerned using variegated yarn, Schaefer Yarn Anne, color Michele but I like how it turned out.
I also have finally blocked my Trinity shawlette. It was meant to be a Christmas present but I made something else for the recipient and decided to keep the shawlette for myself. I wore it for the first time to Stitch and Pitch for the Sacramento River Cats. Unfortunately the game was lost to the Salt Lake City Bees. Don't they sound ferocious?

This is the seat cushion we received. I think it will be great to use as a kneeling pad when working in the garden.

What's in the box?

One of the perks of living in California is all the wonderful farm fresh produce. After reading about them in the Sacramento Bee, I decided to become a member of Soil Born Farm's CSA which stands for community supported agriculture. Once a week I will be picking up a box of in season vegetables. Today was my first box.There are lots of different kinds of greens this week - spinach, 2 different heads of lettuce, a braising mix with baby kales, collards and chard, a baby lettuce mix, Red Russian Kale - along with Tokyo turnips and spring onions. Besides eating the freshes produce possible I will also be expanding my cooking skills. Tonights dinner will be pork tenderloin with braised Tokyo turnips and a spring mix salad. Yum!!

Delta Gamma

During my recent world wind tour of North Texas - yes, I was there a week but it flew by visiting, lunching, soccering and just having a good time-I headed to Denton to hang out with my oldest daughter Rachel. She is attending the University of North Texas which is my alma mater although in my day it was called North Texas State University. I can proudly say Rachel is the current president of her sorority, Delta Gamma. They were on campus when I attended but disbanded and Rachel is a charter member of the current Delta Gamma at North Texas. Delta Gamma also has a new house on campus which I got to see for the first time.
I even got to spend the night in the house. I will have to say that I don't think they spent a lot of money on sound proofing. In the morning I thought Rachel's alarm clock had gone off and it was actually the stereo of the girl's above us.

It is a beautiful house.

And I have to say I have a beautiful, brilliant and thoughtful daughter!!!!
