Oh No!!

As a knitter we have this belief if you knit faster you won't run out of yarn.

 

Doesn't really work but we are always hopeful.

 

In my case I managed to finish the foot of my sock before running out of yarn.

 

I had actually anticipated this happening as I weighed my sock yarn after finishing the first sock and found I only had 48 grams left.

 

 ( I really need to start weighing the skeins before I start to see what the actual weight of my skein when starting a project.)

 

  Being a supposed 100 gram skein I knew I was screwed.

 

Being the optimist I still could only hope.

 

Yes I could make the toe a different color but I thought it would be nice to match the original yarn.

 

I bought this skein of Plymouth Neon Now sock yarn while in Eureka, CA so I didn't know if I could find some more locally.

 

Fortunately, Babetta's which is just around the corner from me had some.

 

I am such a happy camper as Jim mentioned he really liked this yarn and the color and was interested in maybe some golf socks which I now have plenty to make him a pair.

 

I wouldn't want to waste such great neon colored yarn!

8 Stitches

I cast on a sock in January using Sweet Georgia tough love sock which is a superwash merino wool and nylon blend that I picked up in my wanderings from Article Pract in Oakland. 

 

I had bought this yarn to make a pair of socks for a friend but I was not happy how they were turning out and so I found myself not working on them.  I just did not like how the yarn was pooling.

 

This Sunday I decided I needed to either get working on these socks or start over.

I picked start over.

 

I had initially cast on 64 stitches and so I decided to cast on 8 more stitches this time.

 

Generally I cast on 72 stitches when making Jim or Hagen's socks so I decided to just do a 2 by 2 rib to compensate for the extra stitches.

 

I am so much happier on how the sock is turning out.

 

It's amazing what a few more stitches can do.

Playing Knitting Hookey

I started a pair of birthday socks in January that needed to be done by February and might have gotten a little sidetracked. 

 

 While I loved knitting them I found this cowl that was calling my name, the  Xena Cowl by Christina Wilkins. 

 

I had some  gradient Warm Heart 2-ply sock yarn from Fishknits in the color way Jelly On Toast and I bought some Debbie Bliss Rialto 4 ply in black.

 

 

I do so love doing color work.

 

 I did finish the socks also.

  I was knitting for a size 13 shoe so the toes are out of some leftover sock yarn.

And now I'm working on bears for the Mother Bear Project.

 

Mystery Socks

The other day I was going through my bin of stashed fingering and lace weight yarn looking for yarn to use to make a scarf I will be knitting to teach a class on adding beads to your knitwear for my local knitting guild.  Lo and behold I came upon a project bag with a sock and a 1/2+  done.

 

I'm not sure why I put these socks down being that close to finishing them.  I can tell you the yarn is Koigu KPPPM color P727 but I can't tell you the pattern name although I do think they are from the KnitPurl sock club I belonged to a few years back.

 

 

 

Fortunately my index cards with the pattern rows were still in the bag and I can now proudly say they are finished!

 

 

Since it is the start of summer and a mere 100+ degrees outside I am happy to be putting these in the sock drawer to wait until the fall to wear them.

 

 Now off to do some more stash diving to see what else I can finish.
