Grandmother's Flower Garden

I have been working on a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt for 20+ years.
Two of my children were born after I started this quilt.
Yes this makes me feel VERY old.
I finally decided to say UNCLE.

This quilt is done using the English paper piecing method.

I started this quilt before precut paper piecing templates were on the market and so I found the cardstock flyers you receive in the mail to be a great resource and the perfect weight to use for paper piecing.

My finished hexagons are 3/4".

Currently the quilt measures 76 x 95.

I would like to use it on the guest bed which is a queen so I need to add a border.
My plan is to applique the sides down to muslin because I don't want to lose the shape of the hexagons.

And just to prolong the project I think I need to hand quilt this one.

I do hope I live long enough to finish and enjoy this quilt.

Queen Mom

Years ago when my children were younger and I got tired of hearing "mom", "Mom",
"MOM" I would tell my children I was no longer answering to "mom" -  please address me as "Your Highness", "Your Majesty" or "Queen Mom".  I even needle pointed a pillow to make sure everyone in the house knew I was serious.

It did create a little bit of quiet for awhile.

Alas my children have grown but I still have my throne.
Actually it's more of a creative throne that I like to sit in and do my handwork.

As with all creative people we don't like to sit and work on one project at a time.  Different days means different projects so I like to surround myself with many choices.

Here we have a cowl I am currently knitting on along with some hand piecing for my Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt.
Here is my Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt that I have been working on for over twenty years and finally close to being finished with the top and to the right not in the picture is a Christmas dishcloth I am knitting.  Never to early to start on those stocking stuffers.

And here we have the legs to another Mother Bear and to the left in the purple bag is a pair of socks I am knitting for someones birthday.

The weather here in Sacramento has been rather hot, for California in the 90's is hot,  and I have been enjoying sitting in my throne working on a little bit of this and that.
